South Fork of the Flathead River

In the heart of the Rocky Mountains, west of the continental divide and just south of the Canadian border, lies the 2.4 million acre Flathead National Forest. The Hungry Horse Ranger District is bordered on the east by the Middle Fork of the Flathead River and Glacier National Park. Its southern border runs along the Spotted Bear Ranger District and on the west with the Swan Lake ranger District. The Hungry Horse Reservoir and the South Fork of the Flathead River run north through the middle of the district.
