Horseback Riding & Trails

Oak Mountain State Park is currently home to approximately 25 miles of horseback riding trails, with more being added. Some of the trails travel along the edge of the lake, some are in the valley's lush hardwood forest, and others travel the pine studded ridges. There is a trail for everyone to love.

Mountain Bike Trails

The Double Oak Trail at Oak Mountain State Park, also known as the “Red Trail”, has something for mountain bikers of any skill level, from kids and beginners to experts. Built and maintained by local volunteers with the non-profit trail group Birmingham Urban Mountain Pedalers, (aka BUMP), the Red trail is home to their annual “Bump and Grind” Cross Country Mountain Bike race, held each spring. At approximately 22  miles long (and growing), the mountain bike trail is a mix of mostly tight singletrack and “ doubletrack” trail with about 1600 feet of combined climbing if you ride the entire loop. On November 2, 2010, IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association) added Oak Mountain to their list of Epic Rides. This makes it one of 52 “must ride” trails in the world!
